HTHGS: Douching (written by Shan & Claude)

Ask Shan & Claude,
I have a weird question... my boyfriend says that my pussy doesn't smell like pussy... he says it doesn't have a smell... I always try to make sure I’m clean down there. But I don't think I clean it too much or anything... just showering everyday, and I douche about once a week... is it bad that it doesn't smell? What should it smell like? I hope you can help me out... thanks a lot... Amanda

Dear Amanda
You shouldn’t douche.  The vagina actually cleanses itself.  Douching removes everything both the good and the bad bacteria and cultures.  The vagina needs certain naturally occurring bacteria.  That may explain why your vagina doesn’t have a smell.  Some sick folks invented a product that plays on women’s insecure feelings about their bodies.  Even their advertising tries to make women feel dirty.  Perhaps if you quit douching your genitalia would smell slightly different?  Shan & Claude

HTHGS: Don’t douche ? (written by Shan & Claude, MS.Ed.)

Ask Shannon & Claudette,
First, I think you are all doing a GREAT job. Second, I haven't missed reading one of the emails yet. My question...recently you responded to a girl regarding her "no smell area down there". She had stated that she douche's, however your response was... "don't douche". Therefore, if we shouldn't douche what are some other ways, other than showering and maintaining good health regularly, we can stay "FRESH" down there. Thanks, Inquiring minds want to know

Dear Inquiring Minds,
Thanks for your support it is much appreciated.  Our point about regular showering and maintaining good health was that if you do those things you are FRESH “down there.”    Aside from that maybe wearing underwear that breathes is a good idea but you are fresh!!  Unfortunately there are companies that want to make money and try to capitalize on insecurities of “smelliness” and take advantage of people who are already fresh and wonderful!  Here is to your freshness!               Shan & Claude

Our Philosophy sex is like dancing, it changes every time. It depends on culture, atmosphere and mood. Sometimes it is done alone, with a partner or in a group. It can be fast and hard or slow and soft. Sex is a combination of non-verbal negotiation and verbal cues: a scream, a twitch of the toes, or a flush of the face. There is no one 'right' way to move, only what feels good to all those involved.
